Most of the times planning a vacation means hoping for good weather. Even if you do not mind rain or drizzle, it's not always fun sightseeing when the skies are cloudy and gray. There is one vacation spot, however, where you have a better than average chance of having great weather. The Caribbean islands are home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches as well as year round moderate temperatures.

The climate varies little throughout the year, with warm tropical temperatures being the rule, along with the accompanying high humidity. Countries in the southern ocean are generally cooler than countries in the north. During the warmer summer months, they average around 82º F or 28º C. During the cooler times, you can enjoy comfortable temperatures of around 75º F or 24º C. In some areas with higher elevations, expect them slightly cooler down to 50º F or 11º C.

The Caribbean is a tropical location, therefore rain can be a major factor in the daily weather. The forecast will often call for rain every day, but this usually means a short shower or downpour lasting only a half hour or so. Then the sun will reappear for the rest of the day. If you have a vacation planned for one or more of the islands, a rainy forecast will most likely not affect your daily plans. The larger islands tend to be the wetter, with the exception being Barbados, which does get more rainfall than some of the other more mountainous regions. Rainfall amounts range from dry and arid in Aruba, with an average of 21 inches of rain per year, to tropical in Costa Rica, with an average of 135" of rain per year. The others have varying rainfall amounts within those ranges.

The major weather in the Caribbean issues are the hurricanes that occur every year. Hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30, but within that range the storms are more likely from August through October. But don't let the threat of a hurricane stop you from planning a getaway. It has been estimated that visitors have only a 2 to 3% chance of being affected by a hurricane within a typical vacation time frame.

The Caribbean is a vacation destination well known for its beautiful tropical beaches and moderate weather. Knowing what type of climate to expect will prevent any unpleasant surprises. While no one can guarantee perfect sunny days, it is one place where bad weather is the exception rather than the rule.

What caribbean resort should my family attend?

We want to go to the caribbean and stay at an all inclusive caribbean resort. What are the best islands in the Caribbean. Nothing too pricy but still good quality and can accomodate kids ages(12-17) as well.

Well I would sayt eh better islands to go for vacation in the Caribbean especaially with kids 12-17 would be Barbados, Trinidad, Bahamas,USVI and Puerto Rico!

I would especially recommend Barbados and Trinidad though.

Looking for alternative luxury holiday destination?

Currently trying to book 10 days away in a 5 Star Hotel for me and my partner, we were considering one of the Caribbean islands but seems a lot of money to pay for 10 days away. Anyone know any other places that offer the same as the Caribbean but without the heavily inflated prices.

Thanks

Try Turkey or Egypt - all inclusive holidays are good value and you get excellent facilities and good weather.

Jamaica is an island of steady warm weather, lush vegetation and interesting people. But like any other Caribbean island, a Jamaica vacation has good and bad months for weather.

The island, the third most popular destination in the Caribbean, is located only 600 miles south of Miami, FL, making it a convenient place to visit. It is an especially popular resort destination and has major attractions including Dunn's River Falls and the capitol at Kingston.

Jamaica weather is slight warmer than the average Caribbean destination. Despite the lush vegetation, it receives slightly less rain as well.

The average monthly high temperature is nearly 89 degrees Fahrenheit and the average monthly low is 73 degrees, according to the World Meteorological Organization.

Rainfall is 2.7 inches a month. The average number of rain days is 7.8 a month.

The average monthly high temperatures peak between 90 and 91 degrees in June, July and August. They moderate only slightly at about 87 degrees in December, January, February and March, making Jamaica one of the warmer Caribbean destinations year-round.

Rainfall is sparse from December through April. It spikes in May to four inches total, drops in June and July and starts to pick up again in August, September and October. October is the worst rainfall month at seven total inches, followed by September and May. October also averages 14 rainy days during the month.

The island is most popular with visitors in July. It is least popular in September and October.

Anyone planning a Jamaica vacation should consider December through April, June and July as months when the weather is in their favor. They should avoid September, November, May and especially October as the months with the highest rainfall and the highest number of rainy days.

Though the pirates found in Hollywood features might be things of the past, there is a Caribbean island that is keeping the more entertaining aspects this unique culture alive. For the last 30 years, Grand Cayman and her sister islands have hosted an entire week of pirate-related festivities during the month of November. Highlighted by street parties and heritage festivals, Cayman Pirate Week is one of the island's most popular events and a can't-miss experience for visiting families. This year, the pirates arrive in Grand Cayman on November 8 and disembark on November 15.

The festivities of Cayman Pirate Week begin with the arrival of the pirates aboard replica 17th century Spanish galleons. To the amusement of locals and tourists alike, the pirates playfully capture Grand Cayman's governor at the docks of Georgetown. With the Grand Cayman's leader symbolically locked up for the week, the pirates proceed to take over the island and spread their merriment from coast to coast. The pirate landing party will take place this year on Saturday, November 8. The festivities get underway at 2 PM with live beach entertainment at Hog Sty Bay, located near the main harbor of Georgetown. The pirates make their entrance in Georgetown at 3 PM and parade through the city to the delight of local and visiting families. The festival's opening Saturday is capped off with a dazzling fireworks display and an exciting food and dance festival that has been known to spread through the streets of Georgetown.

The following day, families will have a chance to interact with the pirates at the festival's Children's Fun Fair Day. From 12 PM to 4 PM, families can enjoy the friendly street fair atmosphere and have a chance to don pirate costumes, fool around with the performers and play games worthy of the high seas. Also on Sunday, families can participate in the Underwater Treasure Hunt in Grand Cayman's West Bay. Hosted by local dive shops, the Underwater Treasure Hunt offers families a great opportunity to add the thrill of sunken treasure to a snorkeling or scuba diving excursion.

From Monday to Saturday (November 10-15), visitors can participate in a number of heritage celebrations throughout Grand Cayman. The excitement starts in the West Bay area of Grand Cayman on Monday. From 11 AM to 2 AM, the pirates will treat the crowds to live music, delicious Caribbean food and plenty of contests and games. On Tuesday, the party moves to the North Side of the island where visitors will have a chance to enjoy incredible scenery while partying with the pirates. The charming village known as Bodden Town is the host of Wednesday's festivities, while Thursday sees the party return to the capital of Georgetown. At the close of the week, the heritage celebrations visit Grand Cayman's East End on Friday and the Savannah and Newlands areas on Saturday, allowing visitors to experience some of the island's lesser-known sites.

At the end of Pirate Week in Grand Cayman, locals and visitors can enjoy the lighthearted fun of the Cardboard Boat Race. Afterwards, the pirates are brought to trial as the crowds gather to see these "criminals" of the high seas banished from the island. Once order is restored and the governor is released from his cell, an immense fireworks display marks the beginning of yet another street festival. Known as the Street Dance Finale, the closing party moves up and down Harbour Drive in Georgetown until midnight on Saturday, November 15.

Throughout the week, visitors can find booths for food and drinks throughout Georgetown, while many of the local shops join the fun by offering costumes and special souvenirs. Even better for families, getting around Georgetown during the festival is a breeze and nearly all of the Cayman Pirate Week events are free.

If you and your family want to enjoy one of the most entertaining elements of Caribbean history, Grand Cayman is the place to be. As host to the only Pirate Week festival in the region, Grand Cayman offers visitors a chance to experience both an island where pirates once ran wild and characters that few get to see outside of the movies.

The Caribbean Islands are some of the best cruise destinations in the world. With over 50 islands to choose from, visitors are offered a wide choice of vistas, people, and places to meet and mingle. For those people who like to go to the beaches the Caribbean cruise routes are the perfect spots. Their are plenty of relaxing and nice beaches in the Caribbean due to the fact that they are comprised over over 50 islands. The possibility of visiting the same island twice on the popular Caribbean cruise routes would not most likely happen.

Here is a list of just some choices offered on your basic Caribbean Cruise Routes.

There are the Western Caribbean Cruise Routes which all leave from Florida, Texas, and Louisiana ports of call. Western Caribbean Cruise Routes will go to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and then on to the island of Cozumel from there. Leaving from the island of Cozumel the cruise will head to Jamaica and then on to the island's of Honduras and Belize.

Then there are the Eastern Caribbean Cruise Routes which are the most popular amoung the choices available for Caribbean Cruise Routes. These all leave from Florida and other seaports in the eastern part of the US. The Eastern Caribbean Cruise Routes will take you to the Key West Sea, and from their to the Bahamas. hen you will cruise on over to the Turks and Caicos Islands, and on to the Virgin Island's including Puerto Rico.

And third you have the Southern Caribbean Cruise Routes. These all leave from the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Southern Caribbean Cruise Routes cruise over to the Lesser Antilles and the Netherlands Antilles and then extends on up to the west going to Aruba.

Finally their are the exotic and long-duration Caribbean Cruise Routes. You can begin one of these from any one of the previous ports of call we mentioned above. These Caribbean Cruise Routes can go in any direction and most of the time these cruises do not end at the place where it began.

When it comes to these Caribbean Cruise Routes it can be very hard to determine which island and which route one should take as there are so many available awesome destinations. It is better that you you take some time and gain a little knowledge of the places that you want to go. Below is a small list of some of the must see islands when attempting to choose one of the Caribbean Cruise Routes.

Confused about tipping of Royal Caribbean Cruise?

I am going on a Royal Caribbean cruise next month, and I already pre-paid for the tipping.

It was $58.50 per person.

Does that mean that I won't be charged the extra 15% on drinks?

Thanks!

Pre paying the tips is a really nice way to go. That way everything is taken care of so you don't have to worry about it once you are on the cruise. You can always tip more if you want, but you don't have to, you are giving the recommended amount by Royal Caribbean that way.

You will still be charged the 15% gratuity for any drinks that you purchase, that is seperate from the prepaid gratuity. Your prepaid covers your waiters and the person that takes care of your room. Anything else you do, such as a spa treatment, order drinks, room service, etc. is all extra. Only drinks automatically add on the tip. But, it is recommended that you give tips to someone like the person that delivers your room service. Also, if you eat in one of the surcharge restaurants, it is recommended that you give an additional tip.

Have a great time!

It's a cruel fact for would be medical students. Each year over 39,000 people apply for admission to a US medical school, but only about 47% are admitted. What do the remaining 53% do? Well, instead of sitting around feeling sorry for themselves, a huge number are running away to an island...... and going to medical school. One vacationer's beautiful tropical island is another student's campus. Some are gaining as good a reputation as those in the United States.

In the late 1970's Caribbean islands realizing that tourism can be fickle began to look for other streams of income. They hit upon the idea of medical schools, primarily for US students who were being shut out of medical schools in the United States. In a short time St Georges University in Grenada, (which benefitted from some unsuspecting exposure when the US invaded Grenada in 1983) Ross University on the island of Dominica and the American University of the Caribbean, originally on the island of Monserrat, opened their doors. They were and are extremely successful. In the years that followed it seemed a medical school opened on nearly every Caribbean island. The choice became as much about the quality of the education as what the island itself offered.

No one can doubt the success of St Georges University in Grenada. It was so successful, they have branched out to include a school of veterinary medicine, a school of arts and sciences and a graduate studies program. But maybe you can't take the steamy heat in Grenada. Maybe diving is your pastime. If so, head to Bonaire, the island known for its incredible diving and enroll in St James School of Medicine. The remote island of Sint Eustasius, (St Statia), is also known for its underwater beauty as well as the University of Sint Eustasius Medical School. If you get bored there, head to its neighbor island Saba and attend the University School of Medicine. Is a rainforest more your interest? Half of Belize is covered by rainforest and it has three medical schools, Grace University School of Medicine, Central American Health Sciences University and the American Global University School of Medicine. If you prefer your Caribbean islands with a Dutch influence, head for the Lesser Antilles. You can attend St Martinus in Curacao, or Xavier Univerity School of Medicine in Aruba, which has the added advantage of no MCATS for admission. Maybe the island of Nevis can tempt you with the Medical University of the Americas. Its neighbor, the island of St Kitts is positively flush with medical schools including St Theresa Medical University, Windsor University School of Medicine, and the University of Medicine and Health Sciences. The choice is yours.

With so many offerings, how do you choose? Cost is a big concern of course. All offer financial aid, though some are much cheaper than others. Saba boasts a cost of around ten thousand dollars a semester, considerably cheaper than its US competitors and the island competitors of St Georges University in Grenada and Ross University in Dominica. Lifestyle is a factor too. The island of Dominica is much less "Americanized" as far as food and shopping than either Grenada or Belize. The quality of education is also a major factor. All Caribbean medical students must take United States Licensing Exam, the USLE, after their second year of medical school. Grenada leads all the other islands with a first time pass rate of 84.4 percent. Dominica comes in second at 69.7 percent, while St Lucia scores a dismal 19.4 percent. Compare that to the US/Canada pass rate of around 95 percent, and you can see what you are up against.

While the quality of the Caribbean schools may not equal those in the United States, for a large population of want to be medical students, it's the only choice. Besides, you know what they call the St Lucia medical student who got the lowest passing score on the USLE? Doctor.

Tourism in Jamaica

Tourism in Jamaica is a major contributor to the islands economy. Certainly in recent years the island has been ranked as one of the top five destinations that travelers would like to visit. What you will find is that tourism on the island is very diverse and this is why so many people choose to return to the island time and time again.

Certainly the island's economy now relies very heavily on its tourists who often choose to stay for a few days or for a few weeks. Also it relies on those who come ashore for the day from the various Caribbean cruises that take place throughout the year. These often dock briefly in Ocho Rios or Montego Bay and so the nightlife etc. in these parts of the island is truly spectacular.

However if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle then there are plenty of other locations to chose from. Including taking trips up into the Blue Mountains and just spend time exploring the islands National Parks.

But of course what most tourists actually visit Jamaica for are its beaches. This island has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world with warm clear waters in which one can swim. So for a relaxing break with a friendly atmosphere you cannot go far wrong and book a vacation to this Caribbean island.

However, be warned that high season is between mid-December and mid-April and the cost of flights and accommodation can be more expensive.

What is easiest way to get elements of a designer wedding dress custom-made in size 0?

My cousin from France has this idea to have some elements of a designer wedding dress incorporated into a cheaper alternative. She likes the dress that Sassi Holford designed for a recent Royal Wedding but don't have $4,000. My wife loved the wedding dress she got from this online store (they custom fit brides) so she's suggesting this dress at a fraction of the cost. http://www.kekopeanstitches.com/mermaid-wedding-gown.html Simone is having a late summer/fall wedding on a Caribbean island so we need to shop online as the wedding is being planned long distance using the Internet.
We want online stores that can custom fit brides since all the planning is being done online.

Go to a good, reputable seamstress with the picture of that dress and have them "copy" it. A seamstress can re-create the dress to your cousin's specifications for a fraction of the cost and your cousin can even add elements of her own to it.

One of the more popular holiday ideas these days is the villa holiday. There are a number of reasons why the villa holiday is becoming the preferred choice of many holiday makers. Namely, the price! Many holiday resorts and packages can now be price matched by group villa rentals where large groups can combine their budgets and pick up a luxurious villa for the same price. And who wouldn't want to stay in a luxurious private villa with great views, rooms and a private pool?!

So what destinations are the preferred choice for the experienced villa holiday maker?

1. Ibiza

The standard of Ibiza villas is extremely high and the beauty of these well appointed villas is matched only by the beauty of the surrounding areas and views. The two main villa rental areas in Ibiza are Ibiza Town and San Antonio. In both of these areas you will find many attractions, entertainment and shopping facilities.

One of the most famous attractions of a holiday in Ibiza is the fabulous sunsets which many tourists flock to see from the now famous Sun Set strip. If you prefer the party experience then the West End in the centre of San Antonio is the place to head. However, if you prefer the more chilled out aspect of holidaying in Ibiza then check Ibiza Town is the place to head to.

2. Mallorca

Mallorca plays host to a mix of contemporary and classical. With stunning beaches, which are amongst the most revered in the world, and sophisticated town centres with classical architecture and wild club nights.

To some people a villa in Mallorca is a relaxed and secluded sanctuary from the outside world and to others it represents the greatest beach holiday in the Mediterranean.

3. Cape Town

The large variety of villas available in Cape Town make it an ideal location for all types of groups of all ages. From luxurious Pent Houses and secluded beach houses to chic boutiques and cottages the ultra expensive to the ultra affordable are all available in Cape Town.

Cape Town has some of the best beaches in the Southern Hemisphere, with golden sand and crystal clear water. The beaches are perfectly complimented by the beautiful weather and plethora of spectacular mountain, beach or country views.

4. Orlando

As one of the most popular family destinations in the world, Orlando is famed primarily for Disney World but there is also a plethora of other attractions in the Florida area, including Universal Studios, Sea World and Busch Gardens. But there is a lot more on offer in Orlando than just theme parks, many people travel to Orlando and Florida just for the quality of the Golf!

Villas in Orlando are usually very large and almost always include a private pool and large garden area. They are a testament to the sheer size of everything American. The main Villa rental areas are usually within easy commuting distance of the local attractions.

5. Paris

Paris is one of the most popular short term breaks locations in the world. Perfect for a romantic long weekend away with your partner or a longer stay where you can explore the rich and varied cultures of one the oldest cities in Europe.

There are many villas and apartments available for rent and the usual style of these is classical and charming. Expect balconies with great views of the Parisian skyline and high windows and ceilings.

amazing caribbean destinations?

Preferably a villa on a secluded beach so you could step out your door and walk right onto the sand sort of thing(one person going loves swimming in the sea 24/7), typical Caribbean beach such as amazing corals close by, good for snorkeling, not TOO secluded (close to safe town), would settle for a resort type area, ages are 17, 42, 46, 57 and 64. However preferably not an area that clashes with the Atlantic (such as punta cana) as we would like settled waters. What island is best for this do you think, if you could also show me some sites that would show villa rentals it would be very much appreciated :)

The U.S. Virgin Islands are amazing.
The four main ones are St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, and Water Island. When we went we stayed on St. Thomas and it was amazing. We took day trips to St. John which was much more high-end and safer - for us, and it had the best beach in the caribbean - Trunk Bay. You can take a ferry to the surrounding British Virgin Islands. It was truly an amazing vacation.

For many people, a cruise is the ultimate example of a luxurious vacation, with a week or two spent enjoying comfortable accommodations, sun, and sand. While onboard your Caribbean cruise ship, you will enjoy the luxury and service that is comparable to a five-star hotel. Even if your state room is a bit small, sleeping is all you will find time to do in it, because activities and recreation are abounding on these modern day resorts on the water.

Caribbean Destinations

One of the best things about cruising is that you pack and unpack one time in order to visit a potpourri of stunning destinations that each offers their own variety of adventure and relaxation under the sun.

When you book your Caribbean cruise, you will need to choose between itineraries in the western, eastern or southern islands. Each route will offer a variety of scenery and cultures, and each port of call will provide the opportunity to experience different activities and sights. Every itinerary will undoubtedly include a few islands that you are familiar with, and a few others that will be new for you to explore.

The cruise ships will dock at a variety of ports throughout the length of your Caribbean cruise. This allows you to disembark so you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the various Caribbean cultures. The first thing you'll see surrounding the ports on most islands is the teeming marketplace, where you can buy gifts for the poor unfortunates left back home. But don't forget the food! The flavor of the island cuisine is one of the major reasons for cruising the Caribbean. Depending on what itinerary you have chosen, your port of call may include a day of port side adventures such as scuba diving or wind surfing.

You can also opt to spend some of your time on the ship itself, where you will be entertained with numerous activities and fine cuisine.

Use a Travel Agent to Book your Cruise

Nearly every cruise line will offer trips to the Caribbean, and many will be fairly similar in the ports of call that they stop at and the types of activities that will be available. You can choose a Caribbean cruise based on the recommendation of a friend, or on your own desire to explore a particular cruise line for yourself.

The preferred method for booking a Caribbean cruise, especially if you are a first time cruiser, is through a travel agency. In this way you have all the information on all the cruises at your fingertips and you can easily balance which ports you want to visit with which activities you want to enjoy. There are cruises for people who just want to soak up the sun, and cruises for people who want take jungle expeditions, romantic cruises and family cruises. You just have to decide.

This professional service will not only be able to make all of your arrangements for you, they will also have advice on what to pack and how to prepare for your journey.

Tips to Make Your Cruise More Affordable

Cruises to the Caribbean are more affordable than ever before. But those who have been on cruises before will tell you that finding a low price on the ticket is only the tip of the iceberg. Here are some pitfalls to avoid and prevent an affordable cruise to the Caribbean from turning into money drain.

Party Moderately: A cruise ship has plenty of amenities for you to enjoy, from well-stocked bars to theaters and casinos for you to have fun at. But the use of some of these amenities can quickly add to the cost of your trip. In particular, buying a few drinks can add up quickly, because they are charged to your cabin rather than have you pay for it at the time. To keep your Caribbean cruise affordable, start by limiting how much alcohol you drink on your trip.

The casino is another place where you need to watch your cash. You'll have to pay with real money there, but it's easy to get caught up in the fun of gambling. Keep costs down by budgeting for the casino before your trip and spending a set amount each day. Stretch that budget further by playing the less expensive tables, and you'll enjoy your gambling money for a longer time.

Be Independent off the Ship: Your cruise will include several stops at beautiful port locations in the Caribbean. However, these stops can be temptations to spend. Your cruise company will probably offer sightseeing tours and other activities, but they may not be included in the price of the cruise. Make sure that off-ship activities are included, or research your destinations beforehand and arrange your own personal sightseeing.

Save In the Gift Shop: Another amenity on the cruise ship that may seem tempting is the gift shop, where clothing, jewelry, and other items can be purchased to remind you of your trip. However, you will get a better deal at the markets at your ports of call, and your dollars will support the local economy rather than the cruise line. Wait until the last day of the cruise to shop at the gift shop, since items are likely to be discounted then.

Snorkeling?????????

We are going on Royal Caribbean Cruise in Dec for our honeymoon. We want to go snorkeling. I have all my equipment from diving. Can I just bring my own and when we get to Key West can we snorkel on our own? Can we bring it on the ship?
What do you usually carry it in if you bring your own?
And do you usually take fins too? What all do you take?
Will it be warm or will we need wetsuits in Dec31-Jan5? We are going to the Bahamas.

i would bring my own snorkle equip and fins too. I would imagine you could snorkle on your own.
try cruisecritic.com
or cruiseclues.com

to ask more questions about the area and find out where you could snorkle by yourself. good luck
